Observing Juneteenth

June 21

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day news of emancipation finally reached enslaved people in Texas. In the Episcopal Church, Juneteenth is a time to give thanks for freedom, honor the witness and leadership of Black communities, and renew our commitment to justice, reconciliation, and the dignity of every human being.

At St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Juneteenth is included in the parish calendar as part of our shared life of worship and formation.
