St. Luke's is an Episcopal parish in the heart of Midtown Atlanta, praying, singing, and working together to love God and neighbor. Our sextons keep our historic building and grounds ready for worship, gatherings, and daily parish life.

Position Summary

The Sexton is responsible for the cleanliness, setup, and general upkeep of St. Luke's facilities. This role ensures that worship spaces, meeting rooms, and event areas are prepared and maintained so the life of the parish can run smoothly.

Responsibilities

• Open and close the building according to the weekly schedule
• Set up and break down chairs, tables, and equipment for worship services, meetings, and events
• Perform routine cleaning of sanctuary, offices, restrooms, and common areas
• Handle minor repairs and report larger maintenance needs to staff
• Manage trash removal and recycling
• Assist with room turnover between events
• Support special services and seasonal events, which may include evening or weekend hours
• Monitor supplies and notify staff when reordering is needed

Qualifications

• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
• Ability to lift and move furniture and equipment
• Attention to detail and pride in maintaining a welcoming space
• Prior custodial, facilities, or maintenance experience preferred
• Comfortable working around parish staff, volunteers, and visitors
• Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as services and events require
