St. Luke’s Memorial Garden Enrichment Project

Posted on Oct 19, 2023

The Property Committee and Vestry are excited to announce St. Luke’s will initiate landscape and hardscape improvements to the Memorial Garden as part of our commitment to improved accessibility on the church’s campus. The work will begin on Oct. 19.

The Memorial Garden & Cloister were dedicated Dec. 5, 1995, and thanks to funding from Prepare Ye the Way II and The Columbarium Fund we have the opportunity to take the original design to the next level. We engaged Josh Koons, Landscape Architect of Koons Environmental Design to develop conceptual and construction design documents to be implemented by Patrick Hand of Integrated Land Design.Accessibility to the columbarium will be improved by removing the existing stepping stones and replacing them with an expanded crab orchard stone paved area to match the existing hardscape. New wrought iron railings will be added to the stairway leading to the cloister and improved drainage will be installed under new turf and plantings. The enrichment project is estimated to take less than two months to complete. These enhancements will in no way disturb the sacred area where ashes are interred.
