Dear St. Luke’s Community,

Welcome back to our monthly Vestry Newsletter! If you’re new or catching up, this publication is designed to keep parishioners informed throughout our transition period as we search for a new permanent rector. A Joyful First Sunday with Rev. Michael White

Praise God for a beautiful beginning last Sunday! We were thrilled to welcome our new interim rector, The Rev. Michael White, who preached a powerful first sermon reflecting on our namesake, St. Luke. He spoke about how our name embodies Jesus’ care for the whole person and the whole world.

Permanent Rector Search Committee Update As announced last month, the Vestry has appointed a talented and diverse Rector Search Committee. The team is already hard at work— and will begin to gather parish feedback, discern St. Luke’s future, and prepare to engage with potential candidates.

Welcome Rev. Dr. Brian Jemmott, Interim Associate Rector for Pastoral Care

We are thrilled to announce Rev. Jemmott has officially joined our clergy staff, assisting with all aspects of pastoral care, serving as celebrant and preaching throughout this interim period. Rev. Jemmott recently retired from the Diocese of New Jersey where he served as the Canon to the Bishop for ten years. Prior to that he was Rector at Church of the Holy Cross in Decatur, GA.

Learn More About The Rev. Dr. Brian Jemmott

The Rev. Brian Anthony Jemmott, a life-long Anglican from Trinidad & Tobago, is a 1993 Master of Divinity graduate of Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, Evanston, Illinois.

Between the years, 1993 - 2002, he has served as: Curate, Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, Trinidad, where he was also Chaplain to Trinity College; Priest-in-Charge, St. George; St. Matthias, Chicago; Chaplain/Director, The Absalom Jones Student Center & Chapel, at The Atlanta University Center. While doing campus ministry at Absalom Jones Center, Brian was, for a short time, an Assistant at St. Luke's.

In 2003, Brian was called to serve as Vicar, St. Timothy's, Decatur, Georgia, until 2006, when he became Rector, Church of the Holy Cross, also in Decatur. While at Holy Cross, he received the Doctor of Ministry degree from Episcopal Divinity School, Cambridge, MA.

In February, 2016 Brian accepted the call to serve the Diocese of New Jersey, in the capacities of Canon for Black Ministry, and Canon to the Ordinary/Transitions Officer, until his retirement in October 2022, returning home in Snellville, GA.

Brian is married to Michelle Jemmott, Manager of Office Administration and IT at St. Luke's. They have two adult sons, Tsekani and Jelani, who both live in Metropolitan Atlanta.
