Baptism
Baptism is the beginning of life in the Church. In the waters of baptism, we are claimed by God's love, joined to the Body of Christ, and welcomed into a community that promises to support us in faith.
At St. Luke's, we baptize infants, children, youth, and adults. Baptism is not a reward for having everything figured out. It is a gift of grace and a beginning, a public sign that God's love comes first and that none of us follows Jesus alone.

Baptism Dates
Baptisms are celebrated during Sunday worship, so the gathered congregation can welcome and pray for the newly baptized. The Episcopal Church especially commends baptism on several major feast days, and St. Luke's adds one more:
• All Saints' Day
• The Baptism of Our Lord
• The Great Vigil of Easter
• Pentecost
• The Feast of the Transfiguration (offered at St. Luke's in addition to the days above)

The person being baptized
(or parents and sponsors on behalf of a child) promises to follow Christ, continue in worship and prayer, resist evil, seek and serve Christ in all persons, and strive for justice and peace.
The congregation
promises to uphold the newly baptized in their life in Christ.
